Once a year, since 1992, military people of all Army Units have been aligned at a parade to celebrate April 19, the first time Brazilian people had tried to banish from the Northeast of country the Dutchman invaders. It was the year 1648 and the West Indian Company had paid much money to Mr Mauricio de Nassau to trade the sugar supply to Europe.
The "cycle of sugarcane" had started in Brasil Colonial (settlement) and Portugal and Spain had unified their crown which turned Netherlands a potential enemy. Than, the headquarter's staff has considered the Guararapes Battle the birth of Brazilian Army the most important event to the celebration. Medals were distributed to the partners and sponsors who aided the Army to accomplish its goals.
The party has been composed by parades, friendly lunches and dance dinners too. There is same speech and they raise their glasses to themselves when they proposed to Army's members health and long life.
Finally, you would be welcome to all unit quarters on this meeting date, to joint the activities of the project: Soldier for a day. Come on! (Alairto by Army Press)
